Today RJ and I found out some bad news about our nephew John.
Last night John was running around with some of his cousins on the BYU campus after a BYU vs. Utah basketball game. John, who is 6, slipped on some black ice. His legs came out from him completely and his head hit the concrete. He started crying and complaining about an ear ache. His parents gave him some Ibuprofen to ease the pain and he threw it up immediately. That's when Nathan, my brother-in-law noticed that there was blood coming out from the inside of his ear. They called 911 and when the ambulance came they had rushed him to Primary Children's in Salt Lake City. Nathan rode with John in the ambulance and Emily drove Will to her parent's house.
John kept asking if what was happening was "really happening" or not and saying he just wanted to go to sleep. Nathan tried to keep him awake by asking him about their recent trip to Disneyland. It took John almost the whole drive but he finally came up with Space Mountain as being his favorite ride. When he got to the emergency room they took a cat scan of his skull and found that he had fractured his skull in two places, both right behind the ear, and ruptured his ear drum. He also has a concussion.
He is now in the Neuroscience Unit of Primary Children's and will have to stay there until he can keep food down, sit up, walk, and go to the bathroom by himself.
He is still having trouble keeping the food down, but the last we heard he is able to keep it down for a couple of hours longer than he was last night.
He won't suffer any permanent damage but his hearing will be effected for the next 6-8 weeks while his ear drum heals and performing tasks will be difficult as his brain recovers from the trauma.
Thankfully he will be okay.
We would really appreciate it if you would keep this special little boy, his younger brother, and his parents in your prayers as they go through this difficult time.

Okay this has nothing to do with this post. But is in response to a comment you left on one of my posts. You are so right! Social Studies Methods is so pointless. I go crazy everytime I have to sit through what seems like the exact same lesson as the class before!! And what is the deal with the midterm!? I am so burnt out I am contemplating not even worrying about it. If you do bad does he let you take it home? How did your midterm go? Is the whole thing a concept map or an essay or what?
We only had one assignment all semester and it was a final project that he did not give us any specifics on, but does grade harshly...which makes me mad. How can you grade harshly after saying that there are "no rules" to an assignment?! Even though he says you can still get an A with one missing assignment it is a lie. He gave me a C- on my midterm grade because I had an assignment missing that he told us not to even turn in.
